Biography

Dr. Roisin P. Corcoran holds B.Sc. (First Hons), CPsychol, Ph.D, Postdoc Yale University’s Health, Emotion, and Behavior Laboratory. Dr. Corcoran is a Psychologist with the British Psychological Society, a member of the American Psychological Association and is the elected Communications Chair of the American Educational Research Association Social and Emotional Learning SIG. She is also a Fellow at the Harvard-MIT Athinoula A. Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging.

Dr. Corcoran’s research interest lies in (i) the development and implementation of evidence-based social and emotional learning programs and competency-based tools for children and adults, and (ii) evaluating the effectiveness of these tools and programs and the mechanisms by which they have their impact on social, psychological, and academic outcomes. Dr. Corcoran applies her research to myriad domains, including education settings and organizations.

Dr. Corcoran is the recipient of numerous scholarships, grants and awards for her research. Her research in this area has been published both nationally and internationally through peer-reviewed articles, book chapters and, most notably, through the publication of a peer-reviewed monograph on the role of emotion in teaching and learning with Lang Publishers, Oxford. Her reputation in this area has led her to be invited to speak at a number of prestigious international conferences and she is a frequent reviewer for both education and psychology peer-reviewed journals. She was recently awarded external funding to convene a multidisciplinary conference on the theme of “Regulating Emotion”. This conference featured a range of distinguished speakers from a wide area of disciplines including education, information technology, law, medicine, music, psychology and sociology.
